India’s Squad for Asia Cup 2025: Suryakumar Yadav Captain, Shubman Gill Vice-Captain

Asia Cup 2025

The BCCI selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, has announced India’s 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to take place in the UAE next month. The defending champions will be led by Suryakumar Yadav, while Shubman Gill has been appointed as vice-captain. India will compete in Group A alongside Pakistan, UAE, and Oman.

🔹 Gill Returns as Vice-Captain

Shubman Gill, who was in sensational touch during IPL 2025 and the recent England tour, makes a strong comeback to the T20I squad. He last featured in the format during the Sri Lanka series in 2024, before skipping limited-overs matches against Bangladesh, South Africa, and England to prioritize Test and ODI commitments.

🔹 Bumrah Back in T20I Squad

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is also back in the mix, having last played a T20I in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. His inclusion comes after being carefully managed during the recent five-match Test series against England, where he featured in three games.

🔹 Yashasvi Jaiswal Misses Out

Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal did not make the main squad but has been named in the five-player standby list, which also includes Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, and Dhruv Jurel.

🔹 India’s Group Stage Fixtures

India will kick off their Asia Cup 2025 campaign on September 10 against UAE in Dubai. The high-voltage clash with Pakistan is set for September 13, also in Dubai. Their final group-stage encounter will be on September 19 against Oman in Abu Dhabi.

The top teams from the group stage will advance to the Super Four, followed by the grand final on September 28.

🔹 Tournament Venue Shift

The Asia Cup was originally scheduled to be held in India but, due to ongoing diplomatic tensions with Pakistan, the event has been relocated to the UAE. The entire competition will be played in the T20 format.
