The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a historic comeback in the Delhi Assembly Election, securing a decisive win over the incumbent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and returning to power after 27 years.
BJP clinched 48 out of the 70 seats in the legislative assembly, while AAP managed to win 22 seats. The Congress party suffered a complete wipeout, failing to secure even a single seat. A party needs at least 35 seats to form the government in the National Capital.
Among BJP’s prominent winners are Parvesh Sahib Singh (New Delhi), Vijender Gupta (Rohini), Kapil Misra (Karawal Nagar), Tarvinder Singh Marwah (Jungpura), Manjinder Singh Sirsa (Rajouri Garden), Arvinder Singh Lovely (Gandhi Nagar), Shikha Roy (Greater Kailash), and Harish Khurana (Moti Nagar). Other victorious BJP candidates include Kailash Gahlot (Bijwasan), Karnail Singh (Shakur Basti), Neeraj Basoya (Kasturba Nagar), and Umang Bajaj (Rajinder Nagar).
AAP’s key winners include Atishi (Kalkaji), Som Dutt (Sadar Bazar), Gopal Rai (Babarpur), Virender Singh Kadian (Delhi Cantt), Kuldeep Kumar (Kondli), Jarnail Singh (Tilak Nagar), Imran Hussain (Ballimaran), and Sahi Ram (Tughlakabad). Additional AAP winners include Mukesh Kumar Ahlawat (Sultanpur Majra), Anil Jha (Kirari), Chaudhary Zubair Ahmad (Seelampur), and Punardeep Singh Sawhney (Chandni Chowk).
Several high-profile leaders suffered defeats, including AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, and Saurabh Bhardwaj, along with Durgesh Pathak, Avadh Ojha, and Jitender Singh Shunty. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit and BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri and Raaj Kumar Anand also lost their races.
In by-elections, BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan won the Milkipur assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh, defeating Samajwadi Party’s Ajit Prasad by over 61,700 votes. Meanwhile, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Chandirakumar secured victory in the Erode (East) assembly by-poll in Tamil Nadu.
PM Modi Assures World-Class Infrastructure for Delhi
PM Modi announced that Delhi will now witness world-class urban infrastructure under BJP’s leadership. Addressing party workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, he emphasized that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) stands for good governance and development. He noted that for the first time, the youth born in the 21st century would experience BJP’s governance in the national capital.
PM Modi described the Delhi Assembly election results as a reflection of the people’s trust in the BJP’s double-engine government. He highlighted that the mandate reaffirmed that the real power in Delhi rests with its citizens. Calling Delhi a “mini India” that embodies the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, he expressed satisfaction that voters from all sections of society supported BJP in large numbers. He also reiterated his commitment to fulfilling every promise made to Nari Shakti, emphasizing that women voters have become BJP’s strongest support base.
Taking a dig at Aam Aadmi Party, the Prime Minister accused the party of betraying its anti-corruption stance, claiming it had turned out to be corrupt. He thanked Delhiites for placing their trust in BJP to lead the national capital toward greater progress.
BJP President JP Nadda also addressed the gathering, stating that the election results proved that Prime Minister Modi remains deeply respected by Delhi’s citizens. He credited Modi for transforming the country’s politics and asserted that voters had outrightly rejected a corrupt party like AAP. Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming mandate, Nadda also praised BJP workers for their dedication and hard work.
Arvind Kejriwal Accepts Defeat, Congratulates BJP on Delhi Poll Victory
Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener, Arvind Kejriwal, stated that the party respects the people’s mandate and has accepted the outcome of the Delhi Assembly elections. He extended his congratulations to the Bharatiya Janata Party on its victory and expressed confidence that the BJP will fulfill the aspirations of the people who entrusted them with power.
