Donald Trump Sworn in as 47th U.S. President, J.D. Vance as Vice President

Donald Trump has been inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States, taking the oath of office for his second term. Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath during a ceremony at the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, DC. The event was marked by a cannon salute and a rendition of “Hail to the Chief.” J.D. Vance, 40, was sworn in as Vice President by Justice Brett Kavanaugh, becoming the 50th vice president and one of the youngest in U.S. history.

In his inaugural address, President Trump declared a national energy emergency, fulfilling a campaign promise aimed at lowering prices. He attributed the inflation crisis to overspending and rising energy costs and vowed to direct his administration to reduce the cost of goods. Trump declared that a “golden age of America begins right now,” emphasizing his “America First” agenda.

The president announced plans to reverse clean energy policies, including ending the Green New Deal and revoking electric vehicle mandates, which he argued would save the auto industry and support American workers. He also unveiled the establishment of the External Revenue Service to impose tariffs and taxes on foreign nations, claiming it would bring substantial revenue into the U.S. treasury.

Trump pledged to end the “weaponization of the Justice Department,” promising to restore fairness and justice. He highlighted his victory as a unifying moment for the nation and announced symbolic actions, such as renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America.

The ceremony featured performances by Carrie Underwood, who sang “America the Beautiful,” and opera singer Christopher Macchio, who performed the national anthem as Trump saluted.

Prominent business figures, including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook, Sundar Pichai, and Sam Altman, also attended.

At 78, Trump is the oldest person inaugurated as president, surpassing Joe Biden. Earlier in the day, outgoing President Biden issued pardons for key figures, including General Mark Milley and Dr. Anthony Fauci, shielding them from potential actions by the new administration.
